Meta, the owner of WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, has launched Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business unit that sells its AI models and agents to companies and developers. To lead it, Meta hired Chirantan “CJ” Desai, who until 28 September was CEO of database company MongoDB. TechCrunch reported the launch on 28 September.
Mark Zuckerberg called it “the next major pillar of our business”. For Nigerian businesses that already sell and support customers on WhatsApp, some of these tools are closer than you might think.
What’s in Meta Enterprise Platform
The first version bundles four products:

Meta also announced Muse for Small Business, which connects its agent to tools like Asana, Zoom, Intuit, Box, Canva and Slack, as well as a business’s Meta ad accounts and professional Instagram and Facebook pages.
Muse passed 2.5 million downloads in its first three weeks and briefly topped Apple’s US App Store free chart.
Meta hasn’t published full pricing for the enterprise platform yet.
The MongoDB shake-up
In an official statement, MongoDB said Desai had stepped down as President and CEO effective immediately to take a senior role at Meta. CNBC reported that his title is chief enterprise platform officer, reporting directly to Zuckerberg.
- Dev Ittycheria, who ran MongoDB from 2014 to 2025, returns as interim CEO.
- MongoDB has hired an executive search firm to find a permanent replacement.
- Desai had been in the MongoDB job for less than a year.
- MongoDB’s share price fell by more than 17% on the news.
Desai said Meta has “a unique role to play” because it combines advanced AI models and agents with a track record of helping millions of advertisers and businesses grow.
Why Meta is doing this
Meta has spent enormous sums building AI. Until now, it mostly made money from AI indirectly, through better ad targeting. Selling AI tools directly to businesses puts Meta in more direct competition with OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic for company budgets.
Meta’s advantage is distribution. Hundreds of millions of businesses already use WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook to reach customers. Hiring an enterprise-software CEO signals that Meta wants to sell to large companies, not just small shops.

Meta Business Agent is already available here
The most relevant piece for Nigeria isn’t new: Meta Business Agent was rolled out globally in June 2026 across WhatsApp Business, Messenger, Instagram and Meta Business Suite, after nearly two years of testing in India and Mexico. By then, Meta said over a million businesses were already using it on WhatsApp and Messenger.
For Nigerian SMEs, where WhatsApp is often the main shop counter (prices, availability, delivery, complaints), an AI agent that answers routine questions at 2am could be a real help.
How you’ll pay
Meta is including Business Agent in some tiers of its WhatsApp Business Premium subscription, while large enterprises pay based on usage. Check the pricing in your WhatsApp Business app before relying on it.
Muse and Muse for Small Business: wait and see
Meta hasn’t confirmed when Muse or Muse for Small Business will be fully available in Nigeria. Early launches of Meta’s AI products have often started in the US.
Practical tips if you try an AI agent on WhatsApp
- Give it accurate information: up-to-date prices, delivery areas and policies. An AI agent confidently quoting old prices can cost you customers.
- Keep a human in the loop for complaints, refunds and big orders.
- Tell customers when they’re chatting with an AI assistant. It builds trust.
- Review conversations weekly to catch wrong answers early.
