Google’s Gemini 4 Argon is now in Nigeria, but only for ₦28,500-a-month subscribers

Google has started rolling out Gemini 4 Argon, its newest and most capable AI model, and Nigerians can already use it. There’s a catch, though: it’s for paying subscribers only. On Google’s Nigerian pricing page, Argon is listed for Google AI Pro (₦28,500 a month) and Google AI Ultra (from ₦89,000 a month). Free users don’t get it.

Here’s what Argon does, what it costs in naira, and whether it’s worth paying for.

Quick facts: Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on 13 October 2026. In Nigeria it comes with Google AI Pro (₦28,500/month) and Google AI Ultra (₦89,000 or ₦289,000/month). The free plan gets a lighter model. Developers pay $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens until 30 November, then $4 and $20.

What Google announced

In a blog post on 13 October, Google said Gemini 4 Argon is rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app, promising “frontier reasoning and improved performance across complex tasks”.

According to Google, the new model:

  • gives more direct answers, with less hedging, repetition and cliché
  • handles long, multi-step tasks better, and reports its progress more often along the way
  • is stronger at coding
  • powers a new “tasks” mode: you can switch from chat to tasks, and Gemini keeps working even when you step away from your computer
  • connects to more than 40 apps, including Adobe and Shopify, so it can carry out jobs inside other services

Argon is also available in AI Mode in Google Search for Pro and Ultra subscribers, and to developers through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. Google’s agentic coding tool, Antigravity, is limited to Ultra subscribers.

Some of the 40+ connected apps, such as Instacart and OpenTable, are mainly US services, so not every feature will be useful in Nigeria yet.

How much Gemini 4 Argon costs in Nigeria

Google prices its Gemini plans in naira for Nigerian users, so you don’t need a dollar card. According to Google’s Nigerian subscriptions page:

PlanPrice per monthGets Gemini 4 Argon?
Free₦0No (Flash-Lite model)
Google AI Plus₦7,700Unclear (feature list names the Flash model)
Google AI Pro₦28,500Yes
Google AI Ultra₦89,000 or ₦289,000Yes, with the highest limits

Prices checked on 19 October 2026. Google’s page is unclear on whether AI Plus includes Argon, so check before you subscribe if that’s the plan you want.

Students: Technext reports that eligible Nigerian university and polytechnic students can get AI Plus free for 12 months, or AI Pro at a 75% discount, about ₦7,100 a month. Check the student section of Google’s page for current eligibility.

What developers will pay

For developers building apps on Argon through Google’s API, pricing is usage-based and in dollars:

Until 30 November 2026From 1 December 2026
Input (per million tokens)$2$4
Output (per million tokens)$10$20
Cached input95% discountCheck Google’s pricing page

A million tokens is roughly 750,000 words. At about ₦1,500–₦1,650 to the dollar, the introductory input price works out to around ₦3,000–₦3,300 per million tokens. Prices double after 30 November, so Nigerian startups testing Argon should do it during the promotion and budget for the higher rate.

What Nigerians can actually do with it

  • Students: organise lecture notes, compare ideas across several documents and build revision questions before exams.
  • Small businesses and freelancers: draft proposals and client emails, structure project plans, review spreadsheets and sketch cash-flow forecasts.
  • Developers: review code, track down bugs and prototype websites or tools faster.
  • Journalists and researchers: pull together information from long reports and spot patterns in data.

The new tasks mode is the biggest practical change. Instead of answering one question at a time, Gemini can work through a longer job, such as researching suppliers, drafting a document and organising the results, while you do something else.

Is it worth ₦28,500 a month?

For most Nigerians, probably not yet. Google’s free and ₦7,700 plans already handle everyday writing, summarising and research well. Argon is aimed at heavy, complex work: long documents, serious coding and multi-step tasks.

It’s worth considering if you:

  • use AI for several hours a day in paid work
  • write or review code regularly
  • would also use the 5TB of Google storage and other extras that come with AI Pro
  • are a student who qualifies for the discounted Pro offer

For comparison: ChatGPT Go costs about ₦7,000 a month in naira, and ChatGPT Plus is priced well above that. Google AI Pro sits between the two, with the advantage of naira billing and bundled storage. Things to be careful about

  • It can still be wrong. A more capable model can sound more convincing when it makes mistakes. Check figures, legal points, medical information and code before relying on them.
  • Protect sensitive data. Don’t upload BVNs, customer records or confidential business documents without understanding how they’re stored.
  • Watch for renewals. Student and trial offers usually roll into full-price plans. Set a reminder if you don’t want to keep paying.
  • Card issues. Even with naira pricing, some Nigerian cards are declined on Google payments. Enable online and international transactions in your bank app if that happens.

How to try Gemini 4 Argon

  1. Open the Gemini app or gemini.google and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Choose Upgrade and pick Google AI Pro or Ultra. Confirm the price shows in naira.
  3. Pay with a Nigerian Visa or Mastercard and approve the OTP from your bank.
  4. Select Gemini 4 Argon from the model menu. The rollout is gradual, so it may take a little time to appear.
